Traumatic Brain Injury

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Program

Cascade Park Active Day’s TBI center in offers a comprehensive program specifically designed to meet the needs of adults with traumatic or acquired brain injuries. This exciting program is the only dedicated TBI day health service in the South Puget Sound region. It is held Monday throughThursday from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM in a specially designed facility located in the heart of the Tacoma Stadium Historical District, adjacent to Cascade Park Vista Assisted Living.

Stop by and take advantage of a FREE TRIAL PERIOD! We welcome DSHS and Medicaid assistance!

Our mission at Active Day is to maintain or enhance the independence of each participant.  While many of the core program elements mirror our traditional day health center, the TBI program utilizes a rehabilitation/learning model that focuses on teaching the skills that are necessary for our participants to thrive in the community.  This model provides for a more participatory environment, where individuals are encouraged to give their input as they engage in the learning process.

Examples of some of the components offered are:

  • Occupational Therapy - exercise, physical activities, and fine/gross motor skill development
  • Health Services - nursing assessment, medication assistance, and general health monitoring
  • Cognitive Skills - improving memory, attention span, concentration, and decision making skills
  • Life Support - teaching and working to improve ADL skills (Activities of Daily Living)
  • Psychosocial Skills - mental, emotional, social, and behavioral support

The Participants

It is preferred that Cascade Park Active Day TBI program participants meet the following admission criteria:

  • Between 18 – 59 years of age. (Older participants may be better served by attending our traditional program.)
  • Have a history of traumatic or acquired brain injury.
  • Possess a desire to utilize and further develop skills that will serve to enhance their daily life
  • Ability to eat and use the bathroom with minimal assistance

Individuals who are interested in attending adult day health, but do not meet the criteria listed above are encouraged to consider our award-winning traditional program, which serves a wider variety of disabilities and functional impairments.
