Memory Care

Memory Care Program

Cascade Park Active Day’s Memory Care center offers a comprehensive program specifically designed to meet the needs of individuals living with Alzheimer’s or related dementia. We primarily serve participants from Pierce County and the Puget Sound region. This exciting program is heldMonday through Thursday from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM in a specially designed facility located in the heart of the Tacoma Stadium Historical District, adjacent to Cascade Park Vista Assisted Living.

Stop by and take advantage of a FREE TRIAL PERIOD! We accept DSHS and Medicaid assistance.

The Memory Care & Wellness program is part of a larger federally funded project to see if the service makes a difference for local participants. LEARN MORE ABOUT THE ORIGINS OF THE INITIATIVE.

Our Memory Care program is designed to promote the health and well-being of both the person with dementia and their caregiver. We strive to accomplish this goal by following the principles of “person-centered care.” Our employees aim to see the person with Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia as an individual, rather than focusing on abilities they may have lost. Instead of treating the person as a collection of symptoms and behaviors to be controlled, person-centered care takes into account each individual’s unique qualities, abilities, interests, preferences, and needs. The program also serves to provide an added element of support for the family caregiver, allowing them to better recognize and address their own stressors.

Our Memory Care team consists of specially trained individuals who utilize the latest information and strategies known to impact positive outcomes for our memory care participants. Since Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia affects each individual differently, our staff’s primary objective is to help our program participants maintain functioning, while supporting positive experiences that contribute to dignity and an increased quality of life. While many of the core program elements mirror our traditional day health center, the Memory Care program integrates proven dementia capable services designed to promote overall health.

Examples of some of the components offered are:

  • Health Services – general health monitoring and planning with on-site nursing services
  • Specialized Activities – engaging activity programming designed for varied cognitive levels
  • Occupational and Physical Therapies – specifically designed for individuals with mild to moderate dementia
  • Structured Exercise – specifically designed for individuals with mild to moderate dementia • Family Caregiver Support – offers access/links to dementia specific supports
